Nile Basin Initiative Development Forum 2023
Theme: “Deepening Cooperation and Accelerating the Achievement of SDGs in a Changing Climate”

Location: Speke Resort Munyonyo, Kampala, Uganda
The Nile Basin Initiative Development Forum (NBDF) 2023 brought together stakeholders from across the Nile Basin countries, including government officials, environmental experts, development organizations, private sector representatives, and community-based organizations. The forum served as a platform for dialogue, collaboration, and knowledgesharing on sustainable management and development of the Nile Basin’s shared water resources.
Objectives:
1. Promoting Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM): Foster cooperative efforts for the sustainable and equitable use of the Nile Basin’s water resources.
2. Addressing Climate Change Impacts: Explore solutions for adapting to climate variability and mitigating its effects on water resources, ecosystems, and communities in the basin.
3. Showcasing Innovations: Highlight innovative approaches, projects, and technologies contributing to sustainable water management, biodiversity conservation, and climate resilience.
4. Strengthening Multi-Stakeholder Engagement: Build partnerships and networks for effective collaboration between government agencies, non-governmental organizations, private sector players, and grassroots groups.
Activities:
1. Keynote Addresses and Panel Discussions:
Thought leaders and experts presented insights on climate change, biodiversity, and the sustainable development of the Nile Basin. Discussions emphasized transboundary cooperation and the need for climate-resilient solutions to preserve water quality and biodiversity.
2. Exhibition of Innovations:
Nature in Mind proudly exhibited its innovative upcycled PET plastic products, including plastic waste bins, ropes, lampshades, and sculptures. Visitors, including policymakers and international delegates, were inspired by the practical applications of recycled materials in promoting a circular economy.
The Nile Basin Initiative Development Forum 2023 reaffirmed the importance of collaborative, innovative approaches to safeguarding one of the world’s most critical freshwater resources. Nature in Mind’s active participation underscored its role as a key player in driving
environmental sustainability and promoting a circular economy in the Nile Basin region.
